The 85th Regular Session of the Texas Legislature in 2017 brought changes to the structure and method by which the Lone Star board of directors are selected. House Bill 1982, authored by Representative Will Metcalf in the Texas House of Representatives and sponsored by Senator Brandon Creighton in the Texas Senate, amends the District’s enabling legislation to provide for a seven-member elected board comprised of: one elected member from each county commissioners precinct (four total); one elected at-large member by county-wide vote; one elected member by City of Conroe voters, and one elected member by voters of The Woodlands Township. The amendment also prohibits a director from serving more than three full terms and is effective with the November 6, 2018 General Election.
The purpose of this page is to provide the public with information regarding the Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District (“District”) directors’ election to be held on November 6, 2018. The District will be ordering the election in accordance with state law after the official early voting information is available. The Texas Election Code requires specific early voting information to be in the District’s order calling the election. The official early voting information for the November election has not yet been adopted by the Montgomery County Commissioners Court. As a result, the District will adopt the election order calling the November 6, 2018, directors’ election once the official early voting information becomes available, which is expected to be in June (after the May 5th and May 22nd election dates). Please see the “Response to Election Matters” link below that was provided in response to questions regarding the District directors’ election in November. Other links below provide additional information about the election.
